National Clean Air Day
Committed to cleaner skies

June 19, 2025 in Procurement Services
Thursday 19th June 2025 is National Clean Air Day, a time to focus on the air we breathe. This movement strives to raise awareness about significant health and environmental impacts of air pollution. The goal of this initiative is to encourage and inspire everyone to take meaningful steps towards cleaner skies.
Air pollution is recognised by the UK government as the leading environmental health risk.
It affects the health of millions of people living with chronic conditions each year and contributes to a significant number of health-related incidents annually. Atmospheric pollution continues to impact individuals, as highlighted by these findings:
- Reports show that in the UK, over 36,000 deaths occur each year due to heart and lung diseases caused by air pollution.
- Air pollution contributes to fog, which reduces visibility and can impact transportation safety.
- If air pollution levels remain high, 3 million workdays will continue to be lost each year due to illness.
Not only is air pollution a health hazard, but it is also a significant threat to our environment. Here are a few examples of how this is significant:
- Deforestation results in the loss of natural spaces that help combat climate change and provide essential habitats for wildlife.
- Pollution harms animals, disrupting the balance of nature and making their survival more difficult.
- Contaminated water and soil end up impacting animals, plants, and even our food supplies.
At Procurement Services, we're committed to reducing air pollution and creating a healthier environment for all. One of the keyways we do this is by supporting and encouraging the use of electric vehicles. We're actively exploring new opportunities to make our transport choices cleaner and greener. By leading the way with these changes, we hope to inspire others to take action too — because clean air shouldn't just be a goal for one day, but every day.
How can you support in combating air pollution?
- Take public transportation when possible, this is a great way to help reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
- Plant more trees and greenery, they help to combat atmospheric pollution by absorbing the carbon dioxide around them.
- Car share, walk or cycle to work.
These changes may seem small, however if we all come together to tackle the issue of air pollution and reduce our carbon footprint, these steps will lead to cleaner skies.
