Public Service Day

Why is public service day important?

Posted by Temi Adedeji on Jun 22, 2023

Public Service Day was introduced by the United Nations to celebrate the value and virtue of public service to the community. The day aims to recognise the work of public service workers whilst encouraging young people to pursue careers within the public sector.

According to the ONS (Office of National Statistics), there were an estimated *5.83 million employees in the UK’s public sector in March 2023.*

This year has been tough for the public sector in the UK, with various challenges in the rail, mail and education sectors, and it should be remembered that these services are important and provide structure for the nation.

From nurses to teachers, emergency services to local authority administrators, these types of public service are integral to the running of the UK.
