Are you aware of the legal requirements around Martyn’s Law?
Security for public venues are crucial
November 25, 2025 in Frameworks
The Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025, commonly referred to as Martyn’s Law, was officially enacted on Thursday 3rd April 2025. This legislation fulfils a key pledge from the Government’s manifesto to enhance safety measures at public venues and gatherings. This Act was implemented off the back of the Manchester Arena Attack (in which Martyn Hett was tragically killed) to pay tribute to Figen Murray- Hett’s mother.
Martyn’s Law is designed to make public places and events safer across the UK by ensuring consideration of the following:
-
People responsible for certain venues and events must plan how they would respond if a terrorist attack happened.
-
Larger venues and events must also take steps to reduce the risk of attacks.
-
The aim is to ensure these places are better protected and prepared to act quickly if needed.
Guidance will be published to explain the rules in detail, and it will be simple to follow, without requiring specialist knowledge or outside services.
A new regulator will be set up within the Security Industry Authority (SIA), which is the UK’s regulator for the private security industry. It was set up by the Home Office under the Private Security Industry Act 2001 to oversee licensing, standards, and compliance in the sector. This regulator will help enforce the law and provide advice and support to those in charge of venues and events.
