Established in 2011, Plastic Free July is a key initiative introduced by the Plastic Free Foundation that aims to ultimately reduce plastic pollution across the globe. The foundation provides resources and ideas to help you (and millions of others around the world) reduce single-use plastic waste whether that be at home, work, school,  or even at your local café.

Single-use plastic can be described as items that are only used once before they're thrown away. The problem with 'plastic waste' is that it doesn't break down, it only breaks up into smaller parts.

It’s no secret that plastics pollute the environment. According to Condor Ferries, 8 million pieces of plastic pollution find their way into our ocean daily. 79% of plastic waste is sent to landfills or the ocean, while only 9% is recycled, and 12% gets incinerated.* This is part of the reason why the movement has inspired 100+ million participants in 190 countries.

In the UK, the government has introduced the single-use plastics ban to combat materials such as: plates, bowls, trays, containers, cutlery and balloon sticks. From 1 October 2023 businesses must no longer supply, sell or offer certain single-use plastic items in England. **

At KCS Procurement Services we encourage environmentally friendly solutions through our frameworks, such as our Waste Management Services framework. This covers the provision of comprehensive and innovative waste solutions. Our verified suppliers will proactively assist in attempts to reduce the quantities of waste sent to landfills and achieve recycling targets, in line with the revised Waste (England and Wales) Regulations 2011 that prioritise the waste hierarchy.

Additionally, we provide our Wheelie Bin and Kerbside Recycling Containers framework which covers the supply of wheelie bins and containers for delivery to multiple locations. This would also include compost bins, food waste caddies, plastic palette boxes and more.
